Tips From Our Pro

Our very own Sylvia Farmer, owner of Bridal Beauty On-Location, Detroit was quoted in the spring/summer edition of the knot, Michigan magazine.  We are all very proud.  You can buy this issue where magazines are sold, but here are some highlights and Sylvia's quotes:

Newsweek: "Other 'wed' sites aspire to be The Knot."
Vogue: "The chicest wed site in cyberspace."
Business Week: "Don't get hitched without The Knot."
Wall Street Journal: "The best-known wedding site on the Web."

tips from the pros

Style secrets for creating and maintaining the perfect wedding hair and makeup.

We’ve gone straight to the experts to find out their best tips for how to do everything—and we mean everything—to get the most out of your wedding hair and makeup. Whether you’re planning to look totally natural or all-out glam, here’s how.

slim your face
To achieve maximum shading power, Sylvia Farmer, professional makeup specialist, licensed aesthetician and owner of Bridal Beauty On-Location Makeup & Hair (Detroit, 734-697-8529) says to “use a matte powder bronzer just below your cheekbones and then a pink or peach blush on the apples of your cheeks.” To tone it down a notch, skip bronzer; use just a hint of shimmer on the highest point of your cheekbones for extra definition.
pro pick  Give your skin a soft, healthy glow with bareMinerals Clear Radiance ($13,

BareEscentuals.com).

avoid a wedding day breakout
Right before the wedding is not the time to try a new skincare regimen—introducing new products could leave your skin dry, itchy or irritated. If you’re bent on reinventing your routine, you should start at least five or six months before your wedding to see how your skin reacts. However, “if you need a little extra ammo on your wedding day, an acne treatment mask should do the trick,” says Farmer.
pro pick  The Murad Clarifying Mask ($37, Murad.com) is not harsh and is actually gentle enough for all skin types.

fake whiter teeth with lipstick
A brighter lipstick color in a cool tone (think berry reds and blue-pinks, not orange-reds or pinks) will help make your teeth look whiter. “Matte, shiny, glossy or sparkly are all fine as long as the lipstick color has a blue-based undertone,” says Farmer. And finally, once you’ve chosen your bold shade of lip color, choose a blush hue in the same color family. Matching cool with cool will make your bold choice feel soft, not garish.
pro pick  Test a few different shades like Stila Long Wear Lip Color in Paramour ($20, StilaCosmetics.com), which has a deep red hue or try MAC Viva Glam Gaga ($14, MACCosmetics.com), a perky pink.

“Teeth will look whiter when you use lipstick in the blue color family. ”
